Who are FIIs and DIIs, and how do I check their buying/selling in FYERS?

Who are FIIs and DIIs, and how do I check their buying/selling in FYERS?

FIIs are foreign institutions that invest in India. DIIs are Indian institutions such as mutual funds, insurers, and banks. Their net buying or selling shows if big money is coming into the market or moving out. This helps you read market mood and liquidity.

Why it matters

  • Institutions trade large amounts and can affect prices and liquidity.
  • When both buy, the tone is usually positive. When both sell, it is usually cautious.
  • If FIIs sell but DIIs buy, domestic money may cushion the market, though foreign money is still leaving.

See detailed numbers

Scroll to Detailed activity for Gross Buy, Gross Sell, and Net. In Cash (final) you also see the Equity and Debt split.

Notes

  • Cash – Provisional is a same-day quick view (equity cash only) and may change later.
  • Cash – Final is settled data with equity + debt and arrives with a delay.
  • Use Weekly or Monthly to judge the trend; event days (results, rebalances, policy) can make one-day numbers look unusual.

What if…

SituationWhat to do / How to read it
FIIs keep selling for several daysForeign outflows likely. Check if DIIs are buying to offset and confirm the trend on Weekly or Monthly with the index line.
Both FIIs and DIIs buy togetherBroad support from institutions. See if it continues for multiple days, not just one print.
Cash Provisional and Cash (final) do not matchNormal. Provisional is fast and equity-only; Final is settled and includes debt. Use Provisional for today’s stance and Final for confirmed totals.
F&O values jump near expiryExpiry or rollovers can spike activity. Check FII OI to see how positions changed.
