The Symbol vs Futures chart compares the spot price of an index or stock with its corresponding futures price over time. It also shows VWAP, helping you observe the relationship between spot, futures, and the average traded futures price during the session.
Understanding the chart
The chart displays three values on the same timeline:
- Symbol price: The spot price of the selected index or stock, such as NIFTY.
- Futures price: The traded price of the selected futures contract.
- VWAP (Volume Weighted Average Price): The average futures price weighted by traded volume.
You can use the chart to compare how the futures price moves relative to the spot price and VWAP.

What If...
| Scenario | What it means |
|---|
| Futures are trading above or below the spot price. | Futures above spot indicate a premium, while futures below spot indicate a discount. |
| Futures move above or below VWAP. | Compare the futures price with VWAP to understand whether it is trading above or below its volume-weighted average price. |
| I see a sudden gap or sharp move. | Such moves may occur during news events, large trades, or futures rollovers near expiry. Use Futures OI or other market data for additional context. |
