Reverse Position lets you flip an open trade in one click. It closes your current position and simultaneously opens a new one in the opposite direction with the same quantity. Use it when your view changes and you want to switch sides instantly.
Example: If you hold a Buy position of 100 shares, reversing places a Sell order for 200 shares — 100 to square off your buy and 100 to create a fresh sell.
| Scenario | What to check |
|---|---|
| Reverse Position option not visible | Open the Positions tab (not Orders/Holdings). Some instruments like BE (trade-to-trade) stocks do not support reversal. |
| Trying to reverse Delivery/Overnight/MTF | Equity Delivery/Overnight and MTF positions generally cannot be reversed. You can only sell against existing holdings; a short delivery/MTF reversal to create a fresh short is not allowed. |
| Order rejected due to margin | Reversal can require more margin than a simple square-off because it creates a fresh opposite position. Keep extra funds, especially when flipping from option buy → sell or in high-margin segments. |
| Outside market hours | Reversal is available only during live market hours and may fail if the instrument is at upper/lower circuit. |
| Linked Stop-Loss/Target open | Cancel active SL/Target legs linked to the position before reversing to avoid rejection. |
