How to Invest in Government and Corporate Bonds on FYERS (Primary & Secondary)

How to Invest in Government and Corporate Bonds on FYERS (Primary & Secondary)?

FYERS allows investors to participate in both Government Bonds (G-Secs, T-Bills, SDLs, SGBs) and Corporate Bonds via primary issues (fresh auctions/IPOs) and the secondary market (NSE/BSE debt segment). The process is fully digital, giving you flexibility to diversify across debt instruments.

Corporate Bonds

You can invest in corporate bonds listed as debt instruments through the FYERS IPO portal during primary issuance, or trade them via FYERS trading platforms in the secondary market.

1. Primary Market – Corporate Bonds

  1. Login: Go to FYERS IPO Portal.
  2. Select Issue: Browse available corporate bond issues under the "Debt-IPO" category.
  3. Enter Details: Quantity, Series, and UPI ID.
  4. Approve UPI Mandate: Accept the UPI request to block funds.
  5. Track Orders: Use the "View Orders" section to check allotment status.
  6. Allotment: Bonds allotted will be credited to your Demat account.
Important: You cannot use your FYERS trading account balance to apply for corporate bonds. Payment is only via UPI linked to your bank account.

2. Secondary Market – Corporate Bonds

  1. Login: Access FYERS Web & App, FYERS Trader, or FYERS Next.
  2. Search Bond: Enter the symbol/ISIN of the bond.
  3. Place Order: Enter price and quantity, then submit.
  4. Track Holdings: Monitor in your portfolio/order book.
Tip: Corporate bonds in the secondary market may have lower liquidity than equities. Always check market depth before placing large orders.

Government Bonds

Government securities include G-Secs, T-Bills, SDLs, and SGBs. These can be accessed via FYERS in both the primary and secondary markets.

1. Primary Market – G-Secs, T-Bills, SDLs

  1. Login: Visit FYERS Debt Market Portal.
  2. Select Security: Choose from active RBI auction listings.
  3. Enter Order: Quantity and bid details.
  4. Funds: Ensure 100% margin is available in your FYERS trading account.
  5. Allotment: Instruments are credited post RBI auction settlement.
Important: Orders marked as "In Process" can be modified or cancelled. Once submitted to the exchange, they cannot be changed.

2. Secondary Market – G-Secs, T-Bills, SDLs

  1. Login: Use FYERS Web & App, FYERS Trader, or FYERS Next.
  2. Search Security: Enter NSE-listed symbol (e.g., "GS2028").
  3. Switch Order Type: Use the "Overnight" option for bond trades.
  4. Execution: Orders are matched with market availability.
Tip: Liquidity in G-Secs and SDLs can be limited. Use limit orders and avoid large market orders.

Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGBs)

SGBs are RBI-issued securities denominated in grams of gold. They offer exposure to gold prices plus 2.5% annual interest.

1. Primary Market – SGBs

  1. Login: Apply via FYERS SGB Portal.
  2. Choose Issue: Select from active SGB tranches.
  3. Enter Quantity: Specify number of grams.
  4. Funds: Ensure sufficient balance in your FYERS account.
  5. Allotment: Units are credited in Demat form after RBI confirms allotment.
Important: SGBs in non-individual Demat accounts (corporates, LLPs) cannot receive fresh allotments as per RBI regulations.

2. Secondary Market – SGBs

  1. Login: Use FYERS Web & App, FYERS Trader, or FYERS Next.
  2. Search: Example: “SGBAPR28I-GB”.
  3. Place Order: Buy/Sell like any equity, subject to liquidity.
Tip: SGB prices in the secondary market may differ from issue price due to gold price volatility and interest rate expectations.
