Can I modify my order type on FYERS?
Sometimes you may want to change an already placed order—for example, convert a Limit order to a Market order, or into a Trigger Limit (Stop Limit / SL-L) order. Whether this is possible depends on the exchange/segment and order type.
You can modify the order type only while the order is pending (unexecuted). After full or partial execution, conversion to another order type isn’t allowed.
Exchange-wise rules
| Exchange / Segment | Allowed conversions | Restrictions | Notes |
|---|
| NSE (Equity & Derivatives) | Limit ↔ Market Limit ↔ Trigger Limit (SL-L) Trigger Limit (SL-L) ↔ Limit / Market | Options orders cannot be converted to SL-M; only SL-L is permitted. | Most flexible segment. Works only while the order is pending. |
| BSE (Equity) | Limit ↔ Market Trigger Limit (SL-L) ↔ Limit / Market | Limit orders cannot be converted into Trigger Limit (SL-L). SL-M (Stop Loss Market) orders are not allowed on BSE. Options orders cannot be converted to SL-M; only SL-L is permitted. | Pending orders only. |
| MCX (Commodities) | — | Modification of order type is not supported. | Cancel the existing order and place a new one with the desired type. |
| BO / CO (all exchanges) | — | Bracket (BO) and Cover (CO) order legs cannot be converted to a different order type. | Exit/cancel and re-enter with the required BO/CO configuration. |
Key restrictions & notes
- For NSE Equity/Derivatives: conversions between Limit, Market, and Trigger Limit (SL-L) are supported while the order is pending.
- For BSE Equity: Limit orders cannot be converted to Trigger Limit. Only Limit ↔ Market and Trigger Limit ↔ Limit / Market are allowed.
- SL-M is not allowed on BSE. In Options across exchanges, conversion to SL-M is not supported; only SL-L is allowed.
- MCX: order type modification isn’t available; use cancel + re-place.
- BO/CO order legs are system-linked and cannot be converted into another order type.
What If
- “Order rejected” message: This is displayed when the exchange/segment doesn’t permit the conversion (e.g., BSE Limit → Trigger Limit, or any MCX modification).
- I need SL-M: Use NSE Equity where applicable. On BSE and in Options, SL-M isn’t supported—consider SL-L (Trigger Limit) instead.
- Order partially executed: You can’t convert the remaining quantity’s order type; cancel and place a new order for the balance if needed.
