What do the tags like “F&O”, “Economy”, or “Commentary Opening” under each news item in FYERS mean?

In the FYERS News section, every story shows one or more small “tags” just below the headline. These tags help you quickly understand the type of update—market segment, theme, session commentary, or the specific entity (company/commodity) covered—so you can triage what to read first.

Explanation: how FYERS uses tags

  • Primary category tags (blue): Indicate the broad bucket of the story (for example, Stock News, Economy, Global, Commodity News, Bonds, Money Market, F&O, or session commentary like Commentary Opening / Commentary Mid-Day).
  • Subject tags (grey): Identify the specific company or commodity discussed (e.g., TRENT, GRASIM, GDL, MGEL; or RUBBER, COPPER, GOLD, CRUDEOIL).
  • Time label: Appears alongside tags (e.g., “1 hour ago”). It shows recency and is not itself a tag.

Market segments & themes (blue)

  • F&O – Updates related to the Futures & Options segment (e.g., turnover, FII activity, derivatives moves).
  • Economy – Macroeconomic or policy developments affecting markets.
  • Global – International market news and global risk events.
  • Stock News – Company-specific developments (announcements, operations, corporate actions).
  • Result – Earnings or financial results for a listed company.
  • Commodity News – Broad commodity market updates.
  • Bonds – Fixed-income and bond-market items.
  • Money Market – Short-term rates and money-market updates.
  • Commentary Opening – Pre-open/opening-session view of market tone and likely start.
  • Commentary Mid-Day – Mid-session snapshot/commentary on markets.

Subjects (grey)

  • Company identifiers – Short codes/names such as TRENT, GRASIM, GDL, MGEL indicate the company covered.
  • Commodity identifiers – Labels such as RUBBER, COPPER, GOLD, CRUDEOIL indicate the commodity focus.
You may see one blue tag alone (broad theme) or a blue tag paired with a grey subject tag (theme + specific entity).

Where to see these tags?

  1. Go to MarketsNews for both FYERS App as well as Web.
  2. Tags appear under each headline in the story list.
  3. Open a headline; the same tags show at the top of the article.

Tips & notes

  • Tags come from the news source plus FYERS categorisation. Some items may show fewer tags depending on the source content.
  • When scanning fast, read the blue tag first (context), then the grey tag (exact company/commodity).
  • The “time ago” label helps you prioritise freshness; it isn’t clickable.

Troubleshooting

  • I don’t see tags on some items. The source may not include a subject tag, or the story is purely thematic (e.g., an economy-wide update).
  • Tags look outdated on older stories. Historical items retain the tags they were published with.
  • A company/commodity tag seems unfamiliar. Company tags often use trading identifiers or short names; open the story to confirm the full context.

What If…

You want pre-open or mid-session toneLook for Commentary Opening or Commentary Mid-Day. Prioritise these to quickly gauge market tone at the start or mid-session.
You only care about a specific areaUse the category tabs at the top (Stocks, Markets, Economy, Global, Commodities, Debt) to pre-filter the feed, then scan the tags to triage faster.
