How Does Intraday Futures Trading Work in FYERS?
Intraday futures trading at FYERS lets you open and close futures positions within the same trading day. Leverage depends on exchange-prescribed margins for each contract, and under peak margin rules, intraday and overnight margin requirements are largely the same. You can convert eligible intraday positions to overnight if you want to carry your view forward.
Leverage for Intraday Futures
- Exchange margins set the effective leverage. A higher required margin means lower leverage, and a lower required margin means higher leverage.
- Margins vary by contract value, liquidity, and recent volatility of the underlying stock.
- Under SEBI peak margin norms, brokers collect full margins upfront even for intraday positions. As a result, intraday leverage is aligned with overnight levels for most futures.

Convert Intraday to Overnight

Auto Square Off
- FYERS may square off intraday product positions near market close if they remain open and you have not converted them to overnight.
- Auto square off is subject to RMS checks, system load, and market conditions.
- To avoid last-minute risk or slippage, square off or convert well before the close.
Use the margin calculator before entering or converting positions, and square off or convert intraday futures well before the close to avoid last-minute slippage.
What If...
| Scenario | Solution |
|---|
| Margin requirement seems high | Check the margin calculator; high volatility or low liquidity often raises required margin and lowers leverage. |
| Expecting more leverage for intraday trades | Under peak margin rules, intraday equals overnight, so size positions assuming full margin. |
| Conversion option not visible | Ensure the position is eligible for carry forward, that it is not too close to market close, then refresh Positions and try again. |
| Margin requirement changes during the day | Recheck the calculator and maintain sufficient funds; add capital or reduce quantity if utilisation is tight. |
| You forgot to close an intraday position | Square off or convert early to avoid execution risk; otherwise, RMS may attempt auto square off near the close. |
