How do I add a beneficiary using BO Linking Setup in CDSL for share transfers?
Before you can transfer securities through CDSL, you must add the recipient’s Demat account as a beneficiary. This is done through BO Linking Setup on CDSL Easi/Easiest and is mandatory for off-market transfers.
Steps to Add a Beneficiary on CDSL
Log in to CDSL Easi/Easiest
Navigate to BO Linking Setup
- Go to the Transaction tab.
- Click BO Linking > BO Linking Setup.
Add beneficiary details
- Enter the beneficiary’s 16-digit BO ID and PAN.
- If you’re unsure of the BO ID, refer to this article: How to check your BO ID.
- Submit the request to initiate beneficiary setup.
Complete verification via email
- Open the verification email from CDSL.
- Click the verification link.
- Enter your PAN and 16-digit Demat account number.
- Confirm the details, tick the checkbox, and click Generate OTP.
- Enter the OTP received via email or SMS and click Submit.
Confirmation
- You’ll receive a confirmation message once the beneficiary is linked.
- The beneficiary will then be eligible for off-market transfers through CDSL.
Important: Ensure the BO ID and PAN entered are accurate. Incorrect details may delay or block beneficiary approval.
After Beneficiary Setup
Once the setup is complete, you can transfer securities using:
- CDSL Easi/Easiest
- Delivery Instruction Slip (DIS)
- Gifting of securities will be supported on FYERS in upcoming releases.
Tip: Keep your registered email ID and mobile number active to receive OTPs and CDSL verification links without delays.
What if...
| Scenario | Outcome |
|---|
| You don’t receive the OTP | Click Resend OTP and ensure your mobile number and email ID are updated. |
| You enter an incorrect BO ID or PAN | The setup may fail or get delayed. Recheck the details and submit again. |
| You exit midway | You’ll need to restart the process from the beginning. |
| The beneficiary is not approved | Allow 24–48 working hours. If it is still pending, contact our support. |
