What are Exchange Traded Funds (ETF’s)?
Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) offer a low-cost and flexible way to invest in a diversified set of securities. They are similar to Mutual Funds in structure but are traded on exchanges just like regular stocks.
What is an ETF?
An ETF is a basket of securities—such as stocks, commodities, or bonds—that trades on a stock exchange. Unlike Mutual Funds, ETFs are not bought or sold at NAV (Net Asset Value) once a day. Instead, they are traded throughout the day at market prices during live market hours.
ETFs can be used to invest in:
- Broad indices like NIFTY 50 or Sensex
- Sector-specific baskets (e.g., banking, pharma)
- Gold or commodity-based funds
- Government or corporate bond portfolios

- They are traded in the equity segment, just like regular stocks.

Scenario | Explanation |
---|
I try to place an ETF order before 9:15 AM | ETF orders are not allowed during Pre-Market (9:00–9:08 AM) or outside regular trading hours. |
I can’t find my ETF after purchase | The ETF units will reflect under your Holdings tab after settlement (T+1). |
I want to check live prices of ETFs | You can search for ETFs by name or symbol and view real-time prices on FYERS. |
ETFs generally carry lower expense ratios than actively managed Mutual Funds and allow you to take advantage of intraday price movements.
