How Is the Average Price Calculated for Options Positions and the Equity Buy Average in FYERS?

At FYERS, we calculate average prices carefully to reflect your true cost and profit or loss across all trading segments. The calculation logic varies slightly for Options, Equity holdings, and intraday trades, but all follow SEBI-compliant FIFO principles for complete transparency.

Important: At FYERS, we never modify your cost basis unless valid purchase proof is submitted. We apply intraday adjustment first and FIFO for remaining positions to maintain regulatory compliance.

Options Average Price Calculation

At FYERS, the average price for Options positions is determined in two steps for accuracy and compliance.

Step 1: Intraday Adjustment

  • All same-day buy and sell trades are first squared off.
  • Realized profit or loss is booked for intraday trades.

Step 2: FIFO for Carry-forward

  • Remaining lots are adjusted using FIFO logic.
  • The oldest open buy positions are matched first when you sell.

Example

You hold 10 lots at ₹50. You buy 5 lots at ₹60 and sell 8 lots at ₹65.

  • Intraday: 5 buy @ ₹60 matched with 5 sell @ ₹65 → ₹25 profit
  • FIFO: 3 remaining sell matched with old 10 @ ₹50 → ₹45 profit
  • Remaining Position: 7 lots @ ₹50
Tip: Always review your Positions before squaring off a hedge. Closing the wrong leg first can trigger margin spikes or order rejections.

Equity Buy Average

For Equity holdings, FYERS follows the FIFO method. Intraday trades do not affect your Buy Average as they are settled separately and are not added to holdings.

FIFO Example

DateSymbolTypeQuantityRate (₹)
12 SepHDFC BankBuy101490
15 SepHDFC BankBuy51380
29 SepHDFC BankSell81540
30 SepHDFC BankBuy101365

Buy Average after sale: ₹1384 for the remaining lots.

Tip: You can view your Buy Average under Holdings on the FYERS platform. It may change after a sell order because of FIFO adjustment.

Transferred-in Shares Showing Zero Buy Average

When shares are moved from another broker into your FYERS Demat account, the purchase cost is not automatically carried over. Until verified proof is provided, the Buy Average will appear as zero. This proof, known as a Statement of Account (SOA), must include ISIN, quantity, purchase date, and price.

To update your Buy Average

  • Email [email protected] from your registered email ID with the SOA that includes ISIN, purchase price, and date.
  • Mention your FYERS Client ID and transferred stock details.
  • FYERS will verify and update your Buy Average within 24–48 working hours.
Important: Ensure all documents are complete before submission. If you have transferred multiple scrips, include each SOA to avoid delays.

Intraday Average Cost

The intraday average cost helps you track the net realized profit or loss when you buy and sell the same stock multiple times during a trading day.

Example

  1. Buy at ₹100, sell at ₹105 → ₹5 profit
  2. Buy at ₹110, sell at ₹120 → ₹10 profit

Average Buy: ₹105 | Average Sell: ₹112.50 | Total Profit: ₹15

Tip: Intraday averages reset daily and do not impact your delivery Buy Average.
