When Will Bonus Shares Reflect in My Demat Account After a Corporate Action?

When will the bonus shares reflect in my Demat account?

Bonus shares are additional shares issued by a company to its existing shareholders without any extra cost. They are distributed based on the number of shares already held and typically aim to reward shareholders from accumulated earnings.

When are bonus shares credited?

Once a company announces a bonus issue and sets a record date, eligible shareholders can expect the bonus shares to be credited to their Demat account within 15 working days from that record date.

Key things to know

  • T+15 Credit Timeline: Bonus shares are not credited immediately. Post-record date, it may take up to 15 working days for the shares to reflect in your Demat account.
  • No change in ISIN: The International Securities Identification Number (ISIN) remains unchanged. Bonus shares are added under the same stock name and symbol.
  • Temporary P&L Drop: After the record date, you might see a temporary drop in your Notional P&L. This adjusts once the bonus shares are reflected and the market price stabilizes.

Example

Let’s say B Ltd. announces a bonus issue in a 2:1 ratio (you get 2 bonus shares for every 1 share you hold) and sets the record date as 15th June.

Rashmi, a FYERS client, owns 200 shares of B Ltd. at ₹500 per share.

  • Post-bonus, she will receive 400 additional shares, bringing her total to 600 shares.
  • These bonus shares will be visible in her FYERS Demat account within 15 working days from 15th June.
  • The price per share will adjust automatically based on market dynamics.
