What is the minimum and maximum investment limit for SGBs?
Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGBs) are structured in denominations based on the weight of gold. These limits ensure accessibility for retail investors while capping large-volume exposure.
Investment limits
- Minimum investment:
1 gram of gold is the smallest permissible investment. Maximum investment:
- Individuals & HUFs: Up to 4 kilograms of gold per fiscal year (April to March).
- Trusts & similar entities: Up to 20 kilograms per fiscal year.
Note: The limit is calculated based on the total subscription made by an investor in all tranches and through all platforms (primary and secondary).
Example
If each member of a four-person family invests individually, the collective maximum investment can reach up to 16 kilograms annually (4 kg per person).

You invest over the limit | The excess amount may be rejected or refunded by the issuing authority. |
You plan multiple subscriptions | Track total grams subscribed across all issues within the fiscal year to stay within limits. |
