What is the Impact of Merger and Demerger, and How To Track It in FYERS?

When a company undergoes a merger or demerger, your holdings in the Demat account are adjusted automatically as per the approved corporate action. A merger replaces your old shares with shares of the merged entity based on the swap ratio. A demerger may credit shares of the resulting company in addition to your existing holdings.

Scope: Merger and demerger processing is carried out by the company and depositories. FYERS reflects the updated quantities and averages once the corporate action is executed and credited in your Demat account.

Impact of a merger

  • Share swap: Shares of the old company are removed and replaced with shares of the merged company as per the announced swap ratio (for example, 2:1).
  • Quantity change: Your old holding quantity becomes zero, and the new company’s shares are credited.
  • Buy average: The buy average is adjusted automatically to reflect the swap ratio.

Impact of a demerger

  • Original shares remain: You continue to hold shares of the parent company.
  • Resulting-company shares credited: Additional shares of the new (demerged) company are credited based on the approved ratio.
  • Temporary ISIN credit: Resulting-company shares may first appear under a temporary ISIN.
  • Listing update: The correct buy average and live market price for the new company update only after listing on the exchange.
  • Timeline: Credits typically reflect within the corporate action processing window (often within 45 working days from the record date), subject to depository and listing timelines.

Steps to track merger/demerger in FYERS

On FYERS App

  1. Log in to the FYERS App.
  2. Go to Menu (☰)ReportsCorporate Actions.
  3. Select Merger or Demerger.
  4. Review details such as Name, Merged/Resulting symbol, Record date, Ratio, Holding qty (before/after), and New buy avg (final averages for demerged entities update after listing).

On FYERS Web

  1. Log in to FYERS Web.
  2. Click Menu (9-dot grid)ReportsCorporate Actions.
  3. Select Merger or Demerger.
  4. Check the grid for Name, Merged/Resulting symbol, Record date, Merger/Demerger ratio, Holding qty (before/after), and New buy avg.
Note: In demergers, shares may initially reflect under a temporary ISIN. Accurate market prices and final buy averages update only after the new company is listed and the permanent ISIN becomes active.

Troubleshooting

  • My old shares disappeared.
In a merger, old shares are swapped for the merged entity’s shares. Check Corporate Actions → Merger to verify the new symbol, swap ratio, and updated quantity.
  • I received fewer or more shares than before.
This reflects the approved merger/demerger ratio. Compare the Holding qty (before/after) and the Ratio column in Corporate Actions.
  • I don’t see correct prices or averages for the new company.
For demergers, price discovery and final averages update after listing. Until listing, shares may appear under a temporary ISIN without live pricing.
  • I don’t see the new shares yet.
Corporate action credits can take time as per depository timelines (often up to 45 working days). If the expected window has passed, contact support with the symbol/ISIN and record date.

What if…

SituationSolution

I received additional shares after a demergerYou retain parent company shares and receive resulting-company shares as per the approved ratio. Verify before/after quantities in Corporate Actions.
New shares are under a temporary ISINThis can happen in demergers. Wait until listing for the permanent ISIN and accurate pricing to reflect.
It has been over 45 working days and I don’t see the creditIf the expected corporate action window has passed, raise a support request with the symbol/ISIN, record date, and a Demat holdings screenshot.
