What is the Impact of Merger and Demerger, and How To Track It in FYERS?

When a company goes through a merger or demerger, your holdings are adjusted automatically in the Demat account. A merger swaps old shares for new shares as per a ratio, while a demerger may add shares of a new company. Your total investment value stays the same—only the quantity and buy average change.

Impact of a Merger

  • Old company shares are replaced with the merged company’s shares based on the swap ratio (e.g., 2:1).
  • The old quantity is removed, and the new quantity is credited.
  • The buy average adjusts automatically to reflect the swap.

Impact of a Demerger

  • You continue to hold the original company shares.
  • You may also receive shares of the resulting company as per the announced ratio.
  • Quantity and buy average adjust automatically across the involved companies.
Mergers and demergers don’t change your total investment value. They only redistribute it across a number of shares and buy average.
