What is the difference between Bulk deals, Block deals, and Insider trading & SAST?

In the Bulk/Block deals section, FYERS groups large and important trades into three categories: Bulk deals, Block deals, and Insider trading & SAST. Each tells you a different story about who traded, how big the trade was, and why it matters.

Explanation

  • Bulk deals show large trades executed during normal market hours.
  • Block deals show very large trades executed in a special exchange window.
  • Insider trading & SAST shows trades and disclosures made by promoters, insiders, and major shareholders.

Bulk deals

  • A bulk deal happens when a single trade is 0.5% or more of a company’s total shares.
  • These trades happen during regular market hours.
  • Bulk deals are often done by institutions like mutual funds or FIIs.
  • They can move the stock price because of their size.

Block deals

  • A block deal is a very large trade, usually worth ₹10 crore or more.
  • It happens in a separate trading window decided by the exchange.
  • The price is fixed between buyer and seller before the trade.
  • Block deals reduce sudden price swings in the open market.

Insider trading & SAST

  • This includes trades by promoters, directors, key management, and large shareholders.
  • SAST disclosures are required when shareholding crosses certain percentage limits.
  • These trades are reported to the exchange after they happen.
  • They help investors track changes in promoter or insider ownership.
