What is 'entry condition' in strategy builder?

What is 'entry condition' and 'exit condition' in strategy builder?

In Strategy Builder, entry conditions and exit conditions are used to automate when a strategy should start and when it should stop. These conditions help you execute strategies only when predefined rules are met, reducing the need for constant manual monitoring.

Both entry and exit conditions are part of the automated strategy flow and are configured while creating an automation in Strategy Builder.

What is an entry condition?

An entry condition defines when your automated strategy should start and place orders. The strategy remains idle until the entry condition is satisfied.

Entry conditions are set in the Schedule and entry step while creating an automation. You can choose to start the automation manually or based on specific market, time, or system-based rules.

Once the entry condition is met,  Strategy builder automatically places all the strategy orders together as defined in the Orders step.

Examples of entry conditions

  • Underlying price crosses above or below a defined level
  • Breakout of a specific price range or time range
  • A specific time or date is reached
  • An order reaches a particular status

Until the entry condition is triggered, no orders are placed and no positions are created.

What is an exit condition?

An exit condition defines when your automated strategy should stop and exit positions. It helps control risk by automatically closing open positions once your exit rules are met.

Exit conditions are set in the Exit conditions step of the automation flow, after configuring entry conditions.

When an exit condition is triggered, FYERS automatically stops the automation and squares off all open positions created by that automation.

Examples of exit conditions

  • Unrealised profit or loss reaches a specific value
  • Positions metric meets a defined condition
  • A predefined time or end-of-day condition is met

How entry and exit conditions work together

Entry and exit conditions work as a pair to fully automate a strategy:

  • The entry condition controls when the strategy starts
  • The exit condition controls when the strategy stops and exits

This ensures that your strategy is executed and exited strictly according to your preset rules, without manual intervention.

Entry and exit conditions apply only to automated strategies and are not used when placing strategies manually.

Availability

Entry conditions and exit conditions are available in Options Strategy Builder on both FYERS Web and  App.
