What does Max Profit mean?

What does Max Profit mean?

Max Profit shows the best intraday outcome your position achieved during the current trading session—whether or not you exited at that level. It’s a quick way to understand the highest opportunity your position offered today.

What is Max Profit?

Max Profit is the highest intraday unrealised P&L reached by the selected position during the session. It updates continuously as market prices move. Once a new peak is reached, that value becomes the new Max Profit for the day. Use it to compare your current P&L against the day’s best level for the same position.

Why it matters

  • Opportunity check: See the best profit point reached to evaluate exit timing.
  • Discipline review: Compare actual exits vs. the day’s peak to refine trade management.
  • Risk context: Use alongside drawdown to balance upside vs. downside experienced intraday.

Notes

  • Intraday only: Max Profit reflects today’s session for the selected position and typically resets at the next session.
  • Unrealised vs. realised: It represents an unrealised peak—profits aren’t booked unless you exit.
  • Position-specific: The value belongs to the selected position, not the entire portfolio (unless you’re viewing a portfolio-level metric).
  • Position changes: If you scale in/out, Max Profit tracks the position’s P&L path as quantities change; subsequent peaks consider the post-resize P&L.
  • Fees & charges: Depending on your view’s configuration, charges may or may not be included in P&L; interpret Max Profit accordingly.

What If?

ScenarioAnswer
My Max Profit is higher than my Realised P&LExpected. Max Profit is an unrealised intraday peak. If you didn’t exit at that level, Realised P&L will be lower.
Max Profit doesn’t go down when the market retracesCorrect. It’s a maximum—it updates only when a new high is set, or it resets at the next session.
I closed the position—does Max Profit still show?Max Profit reflects the session’s peak for that position. After close, it remains visible for context until the view/session resets.
I scaled the position—did Max Profit change logic? It continues to track the position’s intraday P&L as quantities change; subsequent peaks consider the post-resize P&L path.
The position never went into profit todayMax Profit records the highest P&L level reached intraday. If the trade never turned profitable, that high can still be near or below zero.
