Validity defines how long an order remains active in the market before it is executed or expires. The available options depend on the order type. By default, Day is selected wherever validity is applicable.
Day and IOC in Regular Orders
In Intraday, Delivery/Overnight, and MTF orders, you can choose:
- Day – Order remains active until the market closes on the same trading day. If not executed, it expires automatically.
- IOC (Immediate or Cancel) – Executes instantly in full or part; any unfilled portion is cancelled immediately.

Validity in GTT Orders
- Equity: Valid for up to 1 year from placement date.
- F&O: Valid until the contract expiry.
- GTT orders do not display a validity dropdown. The validity period is applied automatically.
Validity in Smart Orders
By default, Smart orders (Smart, Smart Trail, etc.) are valid for the same trading day. Special cases:
- Smart Step (Advanced): You can set a Start time and End time for that day.
- Smart Limit: Requires entering an End time. The order expires at this time if not executed.
- Smart SIP: Validity is based on the SIP schedule (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.).
Note: Day is the default validity option wherever applicable. Orders do not carry over to the next day unless placed as GTT or Smart SIP.
