How can I use the timeframe options in the heatmap to identify trading opportunities?

The Commodity heatmap on FYERS Web helps you scan MCX commodity futures at a glance by showing percentage moves as color-coded tiles.

By switching timeframes (1 min to 1D), you can quickly spot short-term momentum, intraday strength, and whether a move is sustained—without opening multiple charts.

How the timeframe filters work in Commodity heatmap

The timeframe chips at the top of the Commodity heatmap update the view to show the % change for each commodity contract over the selected look-back period. When you change the timeframe, the tile values and colors update for the same universe of contracts shown on the heatmap.

Available timeframe options

  • 1 min chg %
  • 5 mins chg %
  • 15 mins chg %
  • 30 mins chg %
  • 60 mins chg %
  • 1D chg %

How this helps in trade selection

Switching between timeframes helps you validate whether price movement is brief noise or a more sustained move.

  • Confirm momentum: If a commodity remains positive across 15 mins, 30 mins, and 60 mins (and also aligns with 1D), it can indicate broader participation rather than a quick spike.
  • Spot reversals early: If a contract turns positive on 1 min and 5 mins while still negative on 1D, it may be an early bounce within a larger down move—useful for tighter intraday setups.
  • Avoid false signals: If a move appears only on 1 min but doesn’t sustain on 5 or 15 mins, it may be short-lived volatility.
  • Compare variants quickly: Seeing standard and smaller-lot contracts (example: Gold / Gold mini / Gold petal / Gold guinea) together helps you check if the move is consistent across related contracts before you shortlist one for execution.
Tip: Use 15 mins and 60 mins as a quick “signal + confirmation” pair. Then switch to 1D to check if the intraday move is aligned with the day’s broader direction.

Refresh and data update behavior

The Commodity heatmap supports real-time viewing with an auto-refresh cycle (approximately every 60 seconds). You can also use the refresh icon near the “Last updated” timestamp to manually refresh when you need an instant update.

Important: Commodity trading hours are typically longer than equities. MCX market timings are 9:00 AM to 11:55 PM. If you’re scanning outside market hours, the heatmap may show the last available values.

What If…

ScenarioOutcome
The market is closedThe heatmap shows the last available percentage change for the selected timeframe and updates once trading resumes during MCX market hours.
A contract shows 0.00% changeIt indicates there has been no net percentage change during the selected timeframe window for that contract.
Tile colors change suddenlyThe view updates on auto-refresh (about every 60 seconds) or when you manually refresh. Color changes reflect updated percentage movement for the selected timeframe.
Short-term timeframe is green, but higher timeframe is redThis usually suggests a short-term move within a broader opposite trend. Treat it as a signal to validate the setup on a chart before acting.
