When a company announces a bonus issue (for example, 1:1 or 1:2), eligible shareholders receive additional shares at no extra cost. Once processed by the depository, the bonus shares are credited to your demat account and automatically reflected in your FYERS holdings.
This article explains how bonus shares affect your holding quantity, average price, and where you can verify the bonus details on FYERS Web and FYERS App.
Your holding quantity increases according to the announced bonus ratio.
Example: If you hold 10 shares and the company announces a 1:1 bonus, you will receive 10 additional shares and your new total holding becomes 20 shares.
Your total invested value remains the same. Since the number of shares increases, the average price per share reduces proportionately.
Example: 10 shares bought at ₹100 (Total ₹1,000). After a 1:1 bonus, you will hold 20 shares and the new average price becomes ₹50. If you have multiple buy transactions or partial sell transactions, the adjusted average price may not appear as a simple ratio calculation.
On the ex-date, the exchange adjusts the stock price to reflect the bonus issue. As a result, the LTP may appear lower and P&L may fluctuate temporarily. Charts also reflect adjusted pricing. This is normal exchange-driven adjustment.

To verify the bonus corporate action details:
Bonus shares are credited by the depository (NSDL/CDSL) based on the company’s corporate action timeline. FYERS reflects the bonus only after demat credit is completed. FYERS cannot manually alter or accelerate corporate action processing. Eligibility depends on holdings as of the record date and settlement status.
| Scenario | Explanation |
|---|---|
| Bonus shares are not showing in holdings | Check whether the bonus has been credited in your demat account. If credited but not visible in FYERS, contact support with the stock name, ISIN, and record date details. |
| Average price changed after bonus | This is expected because the quantity increases while the total investment remains unchanged. |
| Bought shares near the record date | Eligibility depends on whether shares were settled and held in demat as of the record date. |
| Sold shares after record date but before bonus credit | If shares were held on the record date, you are generally eligible even if sold later. |
