Can I open a Demat account for my relative's minor child?

Can I open a Demat account for my relative's minor child?

No, FYERS does not permit opening a minor’s Demat account unless you are the legal guardian—specifically, the child's father, mother, or a court-appointed guardian. Relatives such as uncles, aunts, grandparents, or family friends cannot act as guardians for the purpose of Demat account opening unless appointed by a competent court.

Guardian eligibility for opening a minor account

The following individuals are recognised as eligible guardians for a minor Demat account:

  • Father of the minor
  • Mother of the minor (in the father's absence or with consent)
  • Court-appointed legal guardian (in the absence of both parents)

Any guardian must submit valid proof of relationship or legal appointment while initiating the account.

For complete account setup instructions, refer to our minor Demat account opening procedure.

FYERS follows strict regulatory guidelines. Guardianship must be verifiable and legally valid—familial closeness alone is not sufficient.
