Can a minor open a trading and Demat account with FYERS?

Minors are not allowed to operate trading accounts independently. However, guardians can open a Demat account in the name of a minor and manage it on their behalf. This setup is governed by SEBI regulations and is limited to certain investment activities.

Account types allowed for minors at FYERS

Only a Demat account can be opened for a minor at FYERS. This account is held in the minor’s name but operated entirely by the guardian until the minor turns 18 and the account is converted.

  • Trading accounts are not permitted for minors.
  • Only the Equity Delivery and Mutual Fund segments are activated.
  • Guardians can transfer shares to the minor’s Demat account through off-market transfers, such as gifts or family transfers.

For complete account setup instructions, refer to our minor Demat account opening procedure.

Segments not allowed for minors

As per SEBI regulations, minors are not allowed to trade or invest in the following segments:

  • Equity Intraday
  • Currency Derivatives
  • Equity Derivatives (F&O)
  • Commodity Derivatives

These segments require an active trading account and are blocked by default for all minor accounts.

Minor Demat accounts at FYERS support only equity delivery and mutual fund holdings and cannot be used for trading or derivatives.
