Wait and trade in Strategy builder is a feature that allows a strategy to wait for a specific price movement before entering a trade. Instead of entering immediately when the automation starts, the strategy enters only after the price moves by a defined amount from a reference price. This helps you avoid early entries and ensures trades are taken only when the market moves in your expected direction.
When wait and trade is enabled for a leg, Strategy builder captures a reference price at the start time. This reference price is the last traded price of the underlying at that moment. From this point, the strategy continuously monitors price movement. The leg is entered only when the price reaches the calculated entry level based on your wait and trade settings. Until then, no order is placed.
Strategy builder allows you to control how the entry should be triggered. You can choose whether the trade should enter immediately or only after the price moves up or down by a fixed number of points or percentage. The value you configure is applied to the reference price to calculate the final entry price for the leg.
Once the strategy starts, live price data is shown even before any entry happens. Strategy builder displays both the reference price and the calculated entry price for each leg. This allows you to track ongoing price movement and understand how close the price is to triggering the trade.
Wait and trade can be used along with features such as entry by premium, re-entry, and move SL to cost. When used with move SL to cost, the stop-loss is moved to cost only when both opposite-side legs are open at the same time. If only one leg is open, the stop-loss behaviour remains unchanged.
The square off all option at the leg level is disabled, and only square off leg is available. These limitations ensure correct execution while the strategy is waiting for entry.
When limit or SL-limit is selected as the entry order type, Strategy builder automatically chooses the appropriate order based on the wait and trade direction:
